About

Catja de Haas Architects designs and delivers projects on varying scales, with the focus of making life better for people in their home and in the community. Founded by architect Catja de Haas, who has a PhD by design, the practice places a strong emphasis on thoroughly researching their clients’ asks to better deliver the client's brief.

Catja de Haas Architects creates sustainable architecture through thoughtfully considering the impact a building has on its natural environment, as well as building to Passiv Haus or fabric first standards. The practice designs buildings that are a joy to live or work in and have a minimal impact on their environment, through sustainable materials and (of site) building techniques and by reusing existing buildings and retrofitting them to make them more sustainable.

Through its research-based approach, the practice is skilled in designing optimised, user-friendly floor plans for a more liveable and efficient use of space.

Partly based in West Sussex, with offices in London as well, Catja de Haas is also specialised in working in areas of outstanding natural beauty (AONB) and finding a happy marriage between client design brief and AONB restrictions to efficiently deliver planning approvals.

The practice offers project management of all stages of the design and build process but can also deliver advice and design services to help you manage your own project. With a collaborative approach, the practice works closely with their clients as well as with other specialists to deliver all the necessary expertise for your project.

The practice is strongly socially engaged, having delivered research into homes and housing including social and low-cost housing and community projects around the world. The practice also helps raise awareness of homelessness and the refugee crisis through the Giant Doll’s House Project.
